The transition to a more circular economy has an significant potential to contribute to climate change mitigation efforts. Uder the circular economy paradigm, materials and products are used more efficiently and waste generation is minimized, which could reduce energy consumption and GHG emissions. In this study for the Environmental Defense Fund Europe, we developed a comprehensive report and a communication brochure, showcasing the emission reduction potential of circular economy measures implemented in various sectors of the EU economy.

Our research also considered the cost savings resulting from the circularity transition both for companies and for the economy as a whole. The study showed that embracing circularity in key sectors of the economy can unlock immense environmental and and economic benefits, which are to a large extent necessary to achieve current climate change mitigation targets. The report will inform the sectoral climate change mitigation strategies of EDF Europe, and the brochure can be found here: https://www.edfeurope.org/news/2023/04/07/overview-climate-mitigation-potential-circular-economy-eu
