Our work includes applied economic research and policy advice, capacity building, and knowledge transfer with clients ranging from European institutions to national governments in Europe, to international clients such as bilateral and multilateral donors and international financial institutions. 

 

As part of the expansion of our business operations, we are looking for Junior Consultants to join our Energy & Climate Cluster or Green Finance Cluster in any of our offices in Rotterdam, Brussels or Paris (starting preferably in our main office in Rotterdam). We are specifically looking to appoint junior consultants within the following four teams (with opportunity for cross-topic collaborations):  

  • Energy & Climate Cluster 
  • Energy & Climate Policy Team 
  • Decarbonisation Team 
  • Energy Markets & Infrastructure Team 
  • Green Finance Cluster 

 

Role Description 

We are looking for new junior members to complement the different teams and that come equipped with a relevant university degree in subject matter areas below. The challenges within the energy & climate policy and finance domain are diverse, and so you will get to know many different types of work and clients. We are working closely with partner teams within Trinomics on related topics such as governance of the energy transition, energy efficiency in the built environment, industrial decarbonisation, the design of energy markets and the regulation of energy infrastructures, or greening the financial system. 

 

Specifically, we are looking for support in one or more of the following areas: 

  • Energy & Climate Policy: 
  • Expertise in the area of EU climate change mitigation policy 
  • Climate change resilience & adaptation policy or land economy experience 
  • Climate policy co-benefits assessment and climate finance impact evaluation 
  • Decarbonisation: 
  • Policy and regulation related to Energy Efficiency and Industrial decarbonisation  
  • Building decarbonisation, energy management, energy poverty, industrial energy efficiency 
  • Industrial decarbonisation, sectoral roadmaps and technology applications, carbon pricing instruments, industrial competitiveness 
  • Energy Markets & Infrastructure: 
  • Design of electricity, gas, hydrogen and heat markets 
  • EU electricity, gas and hydrogen market integration 
  • Regulation of associated energy infrastructure (transmission, distribution, storage, terminalling) 
  • System integration, sector coupling and flexibility resources 
  • Design of renewables support schemes 
  • Green Finance: 
  • Financial instruments in support of the green transition (e.g. EU budgetary instruments, green bonds, intermediated lending products, transition financing options, innovative financial instruments, green budgeting & mainstreaming, etc.); 
  • Green finance advisory (e.g. green financing needs & gap assessments, sustainable finance taxonomies, nature related financial risks, nature-positive finance, net-zero finance strategies, decarbonization pathways, etc.). 

 

 

Interest in these topics together with highly proficient English language skills are strict requirements for this position. Duties of a junior consultant typically include: 

  • Develop content on project work with guidance from more senior consultants. Tasks may include: 
  • Literature review; 
  • Data collection; 
  • Analysis; 
  • Stakeholder engagement; 
  • Setting up interviews, workshops, webinars 
  • Preparing and distributing documentation (questionnaires, power points, minutes)  
  • Support the acquisition process, including: 
  • Developing content sections of the proposal (background, methodology and risk mitigations); 
  • Develop generic sections of the proposal (planning and organisation); 
  • Liaising with proposal partners 

 

Required 

  • A university or higher education degree in a relevant field such as Political Science and Economics, Engineering and Policy Analysis, Sustainable Development, Economics, Finance or equivalent; 
  • C2 English level (fluent written and oral communication). The ability to work in additional languages is an advantage, in particular Dutch, French or other EU languages. 
  • 0-3 years of work experience. It is an asset if you already bring some internship or work experience related to one of the topics mentioned above;  
  • You are solution-oriented, proactive, resourceful, reliable, energetic and you have an analytical mindset; 
  • Good MS Office skills, in particular MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint. Quantitative capabilities (advanced Excel skills, statistical analysis, etc.) and modelling skills are a plus; 
  • Affinity to Trinomics’ objective and international working environment
