Trinomics has been selected by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy to review the options to expand the Stimulation of Sustainable Energy Production subsidy scheme (SDE++). The existing subsidy scheme (SDE+) stimulates the deployment of renewable energy by providing a feed-in premium. This is in line with its objective to increase the share of renewable energy in the Netherlands in a cost–efficient way. In 2018, the SDE+ supported projects with about €1 billion in cash transfers. The SDE++ will expand the scope to also include greenhouse gas reducing projects other than renewable energy and will thereby become one of the key policy tools to implement the Dutch Climate Agreement and reach the Dutch climate goals.
Trinomics supports the ministry with the development of the SDE++ by assessing the proposed design of the instrument and by delivering policy recommendations for possible improvements to the draft design. The main question is whether the new design will work and whether the cost-efficient characteristic of the current instrument can be maintained. For more information, please visit the project page.
