In line with the Commissions establishment of the Just Transition Fund, all Member States must prepare one or more territorial just transition plans for 2030. These must be consistent with the National Energy and Climate Plans, and the objective of a climate neutral economy. Support from this fund will be provided based on these Just Transition plans, to ensure Europe’s most vulnerable citizens and industries are protected.
The Swedish government has high ambitions regarding the transition to a fossil free society. They have already set up the Swedish Agency of Economic and Regional Growth (Tillväxtverket), which is responsible for preparing territorial just transition plans with a focus on the steel industries in Upper Norrland (Västerbotten and Norrbotten). A total of EUR 376 million will be allocated by the EU and Swedish state to fund this transition.
Trinomics is excited to support the European Commission in the preparation of Sweden’s Just Transition Plan, together with Nordregio. In this we will provide an assessment of the just transition process for climate neutrality, assess the most affected Swedish regions, and provide policy recommendations and lessoned learned. This will provide valuable support for both The European Commission and Swedish authorities.
