Support for an ex-ante impact assessment of the post-2020 (LIFE) financial instrument for environment and climate

Launched in 1992, LIFE is the only EU funding programme exclusively dedicated to the environment, nature protection and climate action. During its 25 years of existence, the LIFE programme has been evaluated a number of times. As the current programming period of LIFE (2014-2020) is ending, an Impact Assessement has been performed developing options for a new (LIFE) financial programme for the post-2020 Multiannual Financial Framework.
Bearing in mind the Commission proposal on the draft Regulation for the LIFE Programme 2021-2027 and the results of the Impact Assessment mentioned above, DG Environment wishes to reinforce the action of the National Contact Points (NCPs), by supporting the creation of a network as part of this study. A secondary objective of this study was to support the Commission in defining the structure of this network, its activities and its budget with the aim of improving the participation of Member States in the LIFE Programme, particularly in those Member States where the rate of participation is low.
