How can the air quality monitoring, modelling and plans be further strengthened?
The aim of this project is to support the European Commission in the process to strengthen air quality monitoring, modelling and plans. It will do so in particular by further mapping and analysing established practice across Member States, as well as by assessing the impacts and consequences of changing relevant provisions. This proposed work will build on the recently published Fitness Check of the AAQD and will rely on both expert input as well as quantitative analysis to guide any proposals for more harmonised approaches.
The project is conducted by Trinomics in collaboration with Ricardo (lead), NILU and VITO. The project will run from October 2020 and will finish by February 2022.
This investigation provided the following preliminary results:
- To identify key issues related to implementation of the provisions for air quality monitoring, modelling and air quality plans that would benefit from further guidance or clearer requirements;
- To map and analyse established practice across Member States for a number of specific issues related to the implementation of provisions for air quality monitoring, modelling and air quality plans;
- To formulate technical suggestions which would address the identified issues and to assess the impacts of different options (based on these technical suggestions) to strengthen the monitoring, modelling and air quality plans provisions, and quantify any reduction potential for the administrative burden.
