How can the EU become a research and innovation leader in the fields of climate, resource efficiency and raw materials?
Trinomics participated as one of the project partners within the FP7 RECREATE consortium, a policy support network that collected and analysed strategic information about medium and long term research and innovation trends and prospects in the Horizon 2020 priority fields of Climate, Resource Efficiency and Raw Materials. RECREATE was a five-year project, which ran until mid 2018.
The aim of the project was to create a clear-cut research agenda for these Horizon 2020 priority areas using a Research and Innovation (R&I) perspective and a transition management approach that (a) looks at the trade-offs and synergies between raw materials, resource efficiency and climate change mitigation, (b) engages key stakeholders in a pro-active manner, and (c) has a perspective beyond 2020.
Key outputs of the research done throughout the project include:
- Six ‘Evidence Based Narratives’, comprising detailed case-studies on resource & climate efficient success stories throughout Europe, all systematically analysed against the Technological Innovations System approach coined by Marco Hekkert;
- An Innovation Systems Scoreboard, looking at integral innovation systems and comparing them for the European Research Area countries with an extensive set of indicators;
- Three Scenarios on the future of European R&I, marking differences between 1) a citizen-based approach to R&I, 2) a more and application-based approach, and 3) a more fundamental scientific approach;
- An overall Policy Recommendations Paper for FP9 ‘Horizon Europe’;
- Ten Policy Briefs, marking the key messages of the Evidence Based Narratives, Scoreboard and Scenarios; and
- Two videos, summarizing and promoting RECREATE and GREEN HORIZONS SCOREBOARD.
