We support policy makers in creating the right conditions for a successful energy innovation ecosystem. We analyse where research, development and demonstration support is best targeted and how any regulation or funding should be designed to promote emerging technologies from low to high technology readiness levels. Our work in this area does not only cover renewable energy technologies, but also Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) solutions.
A recent example is our assessment of the impacts of EU R&D funding on the development of all major renewable energy sectors over the past 20 years. Within this project the impacts in terms of knowledge creation, technology advances and economic development were assessed. We also led a project that focused on increasing private sector investments in renewable energy start-ups through match-making, innovator support and regulatory initiatives.
