Consultant

Sara joined Trinomics in 2024 as a consultant in the Energy Markets and Infrastructure team. She mainly works on projects related to climate and energy policy, carbon pricing, and the quantitative assessment of policy instruments. Recent work spans a broad range of EU and national projects. Among the EU work on energy subsidies and government interventions across the EU (DG ENER), studying the macroeconomic impact of the climate transition (CINEA), assessing options for expanding the scope of the EU CBAM (DG TAXUD), and several projects related to the EU ETS (DG CLIMA). She has also worked on ecodesign requirements under the ESPR, with a focus on stock modelling and quantitative impact assessment (DG ENV).
She has also contributed to international work such as the World Bank's State and Trends of Carbon Pricing report and Climate Trade Measures. Among the Dutch projects are analysing the impact of energy taxation on district heating companies for the Dutch Ministry of Finance, assessing the effects of ETS2 and the blending obligation on heating costs for EZK and evaluating the Dutch CO2 pricing mechanism. Work in Belgium includes a project on global plastic subsidies for the Belgian government and a study on the future of the Flanders gas grid.

Sara has a strong interest in the design and evaluation of climate and energy policy instruments, with a particular focus on market-based instruments, taxes and subsidies. She enjoys working across scales, from detailed sector-level analysis to broader macroeconomic assessments with a quantitative focus.

Prior to Trinomics Sara worked on climate and trade related issues at a Brussels based think-tank for two years following a traineeship at the European Parliament. She also has earlier experience on energy markets in Sweden from the Swedish Energy Market Inspectorate and a research institute. Sara holds a Master's degree in Economics from Lund University, with a specialisation in econometrics and energy systems.

Sara is fluent in English, Swedish and Dutch.
